The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George.

I was given this book as a gift. I don’t know if it would have jumped out at me if I was choosing it myself but when I read the blurb I thought it sounded really interesting. A story about a man with a bookshop on a barge. He loves literature and can ‘prescribe’ books that people need in their lives just by meeting them and talking with them briefly. I enjoyed the book and it had some lovely description and language but I didn’t find the plot line particularly thrilling.

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle.

I heard of this book through Gretchen Rubin (A writer and blogger who I adore). She is a big fan of children’s literature and loved this. This book was really good fun and I thoroughly enjoyed the plot. It features some siblings and a friend who must travel through space (and time I suppose!) to help their father. I don’t have a picture of the actual book as this is actually one I read on my phone.

9/10 stars.

Eleven by Mark Watson.

I loved this one! Such a fun and engaging read. To be honest I felt like this was the equivalent of ‘chick lit’. This is a term I hate, and this book would never actually be described as that as it is written by a man. But there you go. Its about a radio DJ in London and how his actions (or lack of) affect all kinds of different people and how they are all connected to each other. Really cleverly written, quietly funny, great characters and a great story.

10/10 stars.

Pure by Rose Bretecher.

This was such interesting read. Its the author’s account of her struggle with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (a hugely misunderstood condition), or more specifically Pure OCD (an even less well understood type of the disorder). It was very well written, very informative and very engaging. I thought I already knew a lot about this subject but I definitely came away from this book having learnt a lot. Anyone who misuses the term or laughs at ‘how OCD they are’ for tidying up should be made to read this.
